Battery Transport Cases – Safe Transport of Lithium-Ion Batteries

The battery transport cases from TOMcase have been developed for the safe transport and protected storage of lithium-ion batteries. The durable outdoor cases reliably protect batteries against impacts, water, dust and other external influences. This makes them ideal for industry, trade applications, technical service assignments, mobile use and everyday professional applications.

The case shell is made of impact-resistant polypropylene. It is designed for a temperature range from –30 °C to +90 °C and meets the strict IP67 protection rating. This makes the battery transport cases 100% waterproof, dustproof and break-resistant. The specified standards and certifications include STANAG 4280, DEF-STAN 81-41, UN4H2, MIL-STD-810 and ATA-300.

Secure double-throw latches, continuous heavy-duty hinges and eyelets for padlocks ensure reliable handling. The stackable design and non-slip feet allow for safe and space-saving storage. An ergonomic carrying handle provides a high level of carrying comfort. The cases are also compatible with TSA locks and a separately available shoulder strap. The fully automatic pressure equalization valve independently balances pressure differences, making the battery transport cases ideal for air travel.

Battery Transport Cases with a Flexibly Configurable Interior

The standard battery transport cases feature a flexibly configurable interior and, depending on the version, can be equipped with a multi-layer PU pick-and-pluck foam set, convoluted foam or practical lid pockets. The pre-cut pick-and-pluck foam can be individually adapted to different battery shapes, dimensions and accessories. This keeps the batteries clearly organized, prevents them from shifting and reliably protects them against impacts and mechanical stress during storage and transport. The flexible configuration options make the cases a versatile transport solution for different battery types and applications.

Fire-Retardant Battery Transport Cases with THERMO E-GLASS

For applications with increased safety requirements, fire-retardant battery transport cases are also available. These versions feature a special fire-retardant insert made of THERMO E-GLASS. Should a battery stored inside the case undergo thermal runaway, the special insert reacts in a targeted manner: it melts in a controlled way around the affected cell, contains the resulting heat and reduces the oxygen supply. This delays the spread of fire and helps to suppress the flames. The individual batteries are separated on all sides by at least 1 cm of foam within the fire-retardant insert. This prevents direct contact between the batteries while ensuring safe and clearly organized storage. The fire-retardant special insert has been independently tested in accordance with ADR and meets the relevant ADR packaging requirements. It is suitable for packing instructions P903, P908, P909 and P910. The protective case used is UN4H2-certified. These packing instructions are included in the currently applicable ADR 2025 regulations for the transport of lithium batteries.

Note on ADR certification:

The complete system consisting of the battery transport case and fire-retardant special insert has not yet been jointly certified as a complete packaging unit in accordance with ADR. For the transport of critically damaged batteries, we therefore recommend customer-specific validation or a joint test of the intended packaging solution.
